Little Galahs is for curious minds
Little Galahs is a facilitated bush playgroup for toddlers (1-3 years) and their families to explore and learn more about our local environment based in Mitcham, Victoria.
We aim to foster children’s capacity to respect and learn from nature so that they are lifelong carers of and for the land. If you have a little one, we invite you to join us for our facilitated sessions that combine both unstructured toddler-led play with a weekly theme to focus on the natural world, its changing seasons and children’s interests.
Building independence and imagination
Unstructured play in the outdoors is good for children’s bodies and minds. Current evidence suggests that early, varied and frequent exposure to the natural environment promotes children’s physical and cognitive development. Hands-on experiences, particularly outdoors, helps children understand the world by learning through their senses – by seeing, hearing, smelling and touching.

At Little Galahs, children are encouraged to:
use their senses to interact with the natural world
build gross motor skills and spatial awareness
be curious and ask questions about how the world works
solve problems
assess ‘risky’ or ‘tricky’ situations, so they can decide what their bodies are comfortable with
develop their vocabulary as they discover new things
respect the natural world and learn how to care for it
recognise the Traditional Owners of the land on which they play and learn.
